FLOOD CAUSING DELAYS FROM/TO PERTH

23 February 2026

DELAYS EXPECTED FOR ALL FREIGHT FROM AND TO PERTH

1st Notification – 23 February 2026 – 3:30pm

Dear Valued Clients,

We would like to inform you of a significant disruption currently impacting freight movements to and from Perth, Western Australia.

The East–West rail corridor, a vital link connecting the eastern states with Western Australia, has been closed due to severe flooding across parts of South Australia. The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has confirmed major track washaways between McLeay and Bookaloo, with damage assessments and rectification works currently underway.

Current Status:

  • The timeframe for reopening remains unconfirmed, with restoration expected to exceed seven (7) days.
  • Forecast weather conditions may further delay recovery efforts.

As a result, a substantial volume of interstate freight that would normally move via rail is expected to transition to road transport. This will place additional pressure on national linehaul capacity and may lead to:

  • Extended transit times
  • Equipment and driver availability constraints
  • Upward pressure on linehaul costs

Expected Transit Delays
Please allow an additional 3–5 business days on top of standard transit schedules. This timeframe may vary depending on truck capacity and network conditions.

Cost Recovery
We are aware that some carriers have commenced implementing temporary cost recovery measures due to the sudden spike in linehaul demand. MRL Global is working proactively with our carrier network to absorb and manage these increases wherever possible. However, should linehaul rates escalate beyond our control due to sustained high demand, a temporary cost recovery surcharge may be introduced for freight to and from Perth. Any such adjustment will be communicated transparently.
